A councillor who was arrested in a child porn investigation has been banned from Haverhill Town Council committee meetings concerning children.
Cllr Mabon Dane was arrested by police who raided his home a fortnight earlier and questioned him over allegations he made an indecent image of a person under 16.
He denied any wrongdoing and was bailed pending the investigation but the town council asked him not to attend meetings ‘where matters relating to children or young people are likely to be discussed’ after seeking advice from the National Association of Local Councils (NALC).
A public inquiry was opened after proposals for a housing development of about 70 new homes on seven acres of land near the Wilsey estate in Haverhill were refused planning permission.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council refused it planning permission in August 2003 and a duplicate application submitted by the executors of the estate of the land owner, the late Stuart Pelly, was also rejected by the council.
