Two town childcare companies have stepped in to help parents following the collapse of Cheeky Chimps Funhouse.

The children’s play area in Boundary Road, which opened in December 2010 with the help of £100,000 of European Union cash and business support organisation Menta, folded recently.

However, both Kid City – part of Haverhill Leisure Centre – and Dizzy Ducks Nursery have moved to help parents by offering free use of some facilities for those who had a pass for Cheeky Chimps.

Haverhill Leisure Centre announced through its Facebook page that parents who had bought a yearly pass for Cheeky Chimps for 2013 could have a two month pass for Kid City upon presenting their pass.

Alison Blackwell, Abbeycroft Leisure’s development manager, said: “Like others in the community we were sad to hear that a local business had closed.

“We wanted to do something to help the children and their parents in Haverhill in some way.”

Dizzy Ducks Day Nursery, in Homefield Road,is offering free use of its out of school club to parents with Cheeky Chimps passes.

Children must take their own food, and play area facilities are available at a cost.

A staff member said: “We have chosen to do this as a goodwill gesture to help other people in the town.”

Dizzy’s Day Nursery, in Hollands Road, are happy to take last minute bookings for parties affected by the closure of Cheeky Chimps.

Haverhill mums Emma Davis and Nicola Hind launched Cheeky Chimps, and the business was officially opened by Euro MP Richard Howitt.

They had used the internet address www.cheekychimpsfunhouse.co.uk, though the site is no longer in use.

A laser shooting attraction around the back of the site was launched only a few months ago.

The business also ran a Facebook page, which had attracted 627 ‘likes’.

The last update was on February 7.

It had attracted generally warm feedback on popular review website TripAdvisor – of 11 reviews, five said excellent (five stars), one very good (four), two average (three), one poor (two) and one terrible (one).
