The Haverhill group of the charity, The Befriending Scheme, has received a £400 donation from Adams Harrison solicitors, which has offices in Haverhill, Sawston and Saffron Walden.

Each year the firm’s staff are invited by the partners to suggest charities they would like to give to in preference to Christmas cards being sent to clients.

This year the Befriending Scheme, one of whose members is related to an employee of the solicitors, was selected.

Ruth Barton, The Befriending Scheme’s volunteer co-ordinator for Haverhill, received the cheque from Jenny Carpenter, managing partner at Adams Harrison.

Mrs Barton said: “This money could help us get more equipment or do some activities that people have not tried before.

“The other thing we do is try to recruit befrienders on a one-to-one basis, so something like this can help us to support more befrienders in the local area.

“We can achieve quite a lot with the money.”

Also chosen to receive a donation wereh The Papworth Trust - Opportunities Without Limits, which operates in Sawston and the Saffron Walden-based charity Accuro, which matches adult befrienders to people with learning disabilities.
