Finding work for young people at a Haverhill foyer and the town’s long term unemployed has become the focus of a recruitment agency.

PC Recruitment, in Station Road, in working closely with Job Centre Plus and the Cangle Foyer to help get benefit claiments and young people into employment.

Peter Collins, a director of the agency, said: “As soon as you say Cangle or long term unemployed employers just don’t want to know.

“We’re trying to get them to be a little but more flexible in how they recruit – the smaller ones are okay but it’s the bigger firms we struggle with.”

Since beginning the venture around a month ago, PC Recruitment has helped four tenants from the Cangle into part time work and three long term unemployed people from the Job Centre back to work.

Mr Collinsadded he hopes the town’s major employers such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Genzyme, IFF and Figleaves can be persuaded to provide job opportunities.
