Haverhill and District Rotary Club has responded to the Haiyan disaster in the Philippines by purchasing a Shelterbox, which contains a tent and some basic tools and equipment essential for survivors of major disasters.

The Rotary organisation has been a major contributor to the development of Shelterbox and continues to support it and the Haverhill club would like to purchase more Shelterboxes.

To help with this the club invites Echo readers to make contributions which can be forwarded to its treasurer Chris Briggs, c/o Glassfusion Ltd, 20 Rookwood Way, Haverhill, CB9 8PB.

They can be assured that, even if those purchased do not go to the Philippines they will be used to replace those that have already been sent there ready for the next disaster wherever that may occur.

The Rotary organisation in East Anglia has raised over £80,000.00 for the Philippines disaster and is hoping to reach the magic figure of £100,000 soon.

At a more local level, the Club will be arranging a Christmas party for local children complete with Santa and will also, courtesy of Haverhill Round Table, be out in the town with Santa’s sleigh between 6pm and 8pm on Monday, December 16 on the Parkway estate and on Friday, December 20 in Strawberry Fields and Cleves Road.
