Haverhill stalwart Councillor Les Ager passed away yesterday (Wednesday, October 23).
Cllr Ager had been suffering from lymphoma for some time and died in his sleep last night.
The former mayor was a real stalwart of the town, and in April this year was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to music.
Cllr Ager, from Roman Way, conducted Haverhill Silver Band for 30 years, was musical director for 48 shows by the Centre Stage Company and did 35 years worth of the annual Carols for All concert.
He had also been involved with the town’s choral society.
More to follow.
