Haverhill will have a Christmas lights display this year but at a much reduced cost after town councillors agreed to negotiate a reduced budget with contractors.

At their full meeting on Tuesday (25) the town council was told the contractors that put up the lights would like to charge £33,000 for their services this year.

However, as a result of the town council agreeing in February to increase its council tax precept it has become necessary to negotiate with the contractors for a £15,000 reduction in the price in order to make saving elsewhere.

Interim town clerk Bob Whittome will now negotiate the reduced budget with the contractor.
