Steel balls filled with flames that create dancing shadows are being sold by an innovative new business in Helions Bumpstead.

Andrew Gage, 34, has set up The Firepit Company, which is now offering the hand sculpted bespoke steel balls to contain LED lights and gas fires in addition to the traditional wooden fires.

So far the father of four, who runs and is based at Board Barn, has sculpted designs of a safari, a forest, prancing horses, dancing couples, and even made designs to order of hobbies.

“I’ve made many different designs and particularly enjoy making them of natural environments, but have also had orders of people’s hobbies such as T’ai Chi, gun dogs and combine harvesters,” said Andy.

“People like to have them all year round so I’m making them now to have LED lights so people can use them in the garden.”

The venture has gone well since it launched recently, with Andy selling out the first two shipments of the balls and currently pending a third.

Prices currently start at £750, though Andy hopes to offer smaller ones for under £500 before next month.

He is also hoping to be able to employ more people as the business grows.
