A cancer care survey finds Papworth Hospital is best NHS Trust in the region and one of the top in the country
Patients have once again rated Papworth Hospital amongst some of the best in the country for cancer care and treatment, according to a national survey commissioned by Macmillan Cancer Support.
The UK’s leading cardiothoracic hospital has been rated as one of the top 10 NHS Trusts for the way in which it cares for its cancer patients throughout their care pathway.
Patients who are being treated for cancer at Papworth Hospital took part in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2012/13 - with 98% saying they were always treated with respect and dignity by staff.
The NHS England survey also found that 98% felt they were given clear written information and told what they should and should not do post discharge while 95% said staff explained completely what would be done
Dr Mark Slade, Medical Director at Papworth Hospital said: “The results from the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2012/13 illustrate that patients who are referred here for cancer treatment are very satisfied with the standard of care Papworth Hospital offers.
“We are committed to trying to provide the best in cancer care, and these results are testament to the outstanding work our staff do on a daily basis.”
Patients also rated the hospital highly for the time it took to be seen by Papworth specialists and the majority felt they could name their clinical nurse specialist.
The survey, which reported the views of 116,000 cancer patients at 155 NHS Trusts nationwide, also said that 90% of patients felt they were told they had cancer in a sensitive manner.
