Hunt's open day gave public chance to see what happens

THURLOW Hunt Kennels opened its doors on Sunday for all people, regardless of their opinions, to see what the kennels are all about.

Between 250 and 300 people turned up to the free day and took part in activities such as pony rides and tractor and trailer tours of the estate.

And Jeremy Kiddy, of the hunt committee, was delighted with the day, which was blessed with beautiful sunshine.

He said: “It’s critical that the public can come in to understand what we are doing, otherwise they wouldn’t get the chance to meet us personally.

“If they hadn’t come they might see us out across the fields with the horses and hounds and wonder what’s going on.

“That’s why it is vital they come and meet us and speak to us personally. I think we achieved that again on Sunday.”

There was also a sheepdog demonstration, a catapult range and a bouncy castle.

“The weather was good which always helps,” said Mr Kiddy. “It’s really good for us to get people to come and look around regardless of their views.”

The open day has been running for six years and gives the hunt the chance to tell people about what they do now and did before the hunting ban came into force in 2005.
