Police in Bury St Edmunds are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the town. The incident occurred at around 8.40pm on Sunday (6) along the footpath at the front of Caie Walk.
The victim, a man in his early forties, was walking along the path when he was attacked by a group of five people who struck him with a series of punches and then slashed him with a sharp implement causing cuts to his face and chest.
The victim fought back in self-defence punching one of the suspects hard in the mouth. The offenders then ceased the attack and walked off in the direction of the Hardwick Shopping Precinct.
Detectives believe the suspect that the victim punched in the mouth is likely to have sustained bruising to their face and significant damage to their teeth due to the indentations left in the victim’s hand.
Anyone who believes they may know who the offenders are or who has information about this attack is asked to contact DC Steven Duncan at Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
