Man dies after being hit by a van as he walked on road in Assington


A man in his mid 20s has died after a he was hit by a van as he was walking on the A134 at Assington.

Police were initially contacted by a driver around 6.20pm yesterday (Sunday, December 15) evening who reported she was concerned for a man walking along the A134 at Newton.

Officers rushed to the area to see if the man could be found.

Police then received a second call from a driver of a Ford Transit van who reported he had been involved in a collision on the road between Newton and Assington about 6.30pm.

A search began in the area and at around 7.30pm the body of a man was found.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed while a preliminary investigation gets underway and police are asking anyone who may have been in the area around this time to come forward if you have an information that may assist the enquiry.
