A man touched a woman’s bottom in two separate incidents while she was shopping in Tesco Haverhill with her elderly mother and child.

Ludovico Lancianese, 35, from Cowlinge, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault when he appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court last Friday (November 23).

Wayne Ablett, prosecuting, told the court Lancianese had touched a woman’s bottom as she shopped with her elderly mother and child in Tesco on two separate occasions.

On August 15 this year the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been in the fruit and vegetable aisle when she first felt a ‘slight brush on her bottom’.

Mr Ablett told the court she had been shocked by the incident and sent a text message to her sister and partner.

Shortly afterwards she was waiting for her mother to return from another aisle when she again felt someone touch her bottom in the same way

Lancianese proceeded to touch her bottom twice more.

On November 2 the victim was again shopping with her mother when she noticed the same man.

Lancianese again proceeded to touch her on the bottom, in a similar way.

Police were called by Tesco staff after the incident was reported to them.

Helen Korfanty, mitigating, told the court Lancianese was ‘absolutely mortified at how he behaved’.

Mrs Korfanty said Lancianese had recently suffered problems in his personal and financial life and suggested a ‘lack of empowerment’ may have been responsible for his actions.

Magistrate Marian de Bass, asked for a probation report to be prepared.

Lancianese will return to Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on December 18 to be sentenced.

He was released on bail under the conditions that he does not enter Tesco supermarket in Haverhill or contact the victim.
