More urged to use Haverhill Shopmobility scheme
A scheme that helps disabled people to use Haverhill town centre is urging more people to make use of it.
Haverhill Shopmobility was launched to much fanfare in 2008, yet five years on people are not making use of the initiative, run by Haverhill’s community transport provider Three Counties Transport.
The scheme offers assistance to those who have difficulty getting around by loaning electric scooters and wheelchairs. It is open to people with permanent or temporary mobility problems for a cost of £1.50 a day or £5 for annual membership.
Lyn Burgess, Three Counties manager, said: “We know from research and activity from similar size town’s that there is a demand for this service. We can only assume that people have either forgotten about it, think they do not qualify for it or they have never heard of it.”
Shopmobility is based at the borough council offices in Lower Downs Slade and registration is simple. Users need to take two forms of identity – preferable one with a photograph. More information is available on 01440 712028 or by e-mailing at lyn.burgess@suffolk.gov.uk
