Carrie Prior arrived at the village school last week for the first week of the new term having moved from St Andrew’s Primary School in Halstead, where she had been deputy head and had worked for two years.

Mrs Prior, who lives in Gestingthorpe, said of her new job: “I’ve always had my goal to become a head teacher.

“I’ve always wanted to lead a school and make a difference and I want to move the school forward in the direction they should go.”

Mrs Prior, 32, a former pupil at Hedingham School, has been teaching for nine years, and prior to her job in Halstead has taught at St Michaels Primary school in Braintree.

Maria Trappit resigned as the school’s head in April after more than ten years in the job, after which Louise Gurney became acting head for the remainder of the spring term and then Margaret Partridge temporarily took over as the head until the end of the summer term.
