People who have spent time in intensive care have been invited to join a new support group for ex-patients and their families.

Called ICUsteps West Suffolk, the group has been set up by former patients and relatives with the help of West Suffolk Hospital’s critical care follow-up team. Its aim is to give people the chance to share their experiences and offer mutual support.

It is open to anyone who has experienced critical illness, regardless of where they received their care.

Janet Thomas, follow-up sister in West Suffolk Hospital’s critical care unit, said: “This new group gives former patients, their families and friends the chance to get together, share their own stories and offer support.

“The aim is to give people who have had similar experiences the opportunity to talk and offer each other support and advice.

“If you think that a patient, relation or friend could benefit, please let them know about us.”

Initial funding for the group was donated by Suffolk County Councillor Rebecca Hopfensperger. Its next drop in meeting takes place at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club on Tuesday, July 29 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
