Over 50s exercise classes in Cottenham and Harston: a healthy resolution for the mind, body and soul

Two new exercise classes targeted at the over 50’s in South Cambridgeshire will help residents achieve New Year resolutions to improve their health as they hop, skip and jump into 2013.

New classes in Cottenham and Harston, run by the Forever Active scheme in association with South Cambridgeshire District Council, offer a choice of seated and standing activities aimed to improve strength and balance to help make the most of life.

The Cottenham class will take place fortnightly on Mondays, from 11am to midday, at Stevens Close sheltered housing scheme.

District Councillor for Cottenham, Cllr Lynda Harford, will spur the participants on when she launched the first session on Monday (January 7).

The Harston class will run weekly on Thursdays, from 3pm to 4pm, at Meadow Way sheltered housing scheme, and started on Thursday (January 10).

Both classes will be run by qualified instructors and will cost just £3 for each session.

The Forever Active scheme provides many different exercise and activity sessions that cater for all abilities in the over 50 age group across South Cambridgeshire.

Sessions range from chair based exercises, which are suitable for people with mobility problems, to energetic classes for the more active.

South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for new communities, Cllr Pippa Corney, said: “The Forever Active programme has something to offer everyone, whether you are 50 or 100 and whether you’re fit as a fiddle or looking to return to a more active lifestyle.

“The New Year is the perfect time to think about taking steps to becoming a healthier and happier you and is a great time to join one of our sessions.”
