Essex Police has decided not to continue match-funding police community support officers (PCSOs).
From Monday, March 31, the funding will be withdrawn, however this will not lead to any redundancies.
Local authorities which have current match-funding agreements have been advised. Essex Police is fully committed to the valuable role PCSOs perform within the force.
Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh and Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston have pledged as one of the key principles of the Evolve Programme that the future policing model of Essex Police will include PCSOs as an integral part.
The withdrawal of match-funding will mean more flexibility for the force in the deployment of staff to meet operational requirements.
It is envisaged this will lead to a more effective and efficient workforce, allowing us to get coverage right instead of being constrained by funding dictates.
