Plans to turn Haverhill Corn Exchange into a museum or heritage centre are progressing with those hoping to restore the building set to meet others who have succeeded in a similar situation.
Suffolk County Councillor Tony Brown and others that support his ambition of restoring the derelict Withersfield Road building will meet with Tom Barker and others that have succeeded in turning the former Stowmarket Corn Exchange into the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts on January 20.
“The building there was in the same condition as ours and it’s virtually the same project and they’re in the final part of completing it,” said the councillor for Haverhill East and Kedington.
“After we’ve had advice from them at the meeting we’ll put a business plan together and form a larger group to drive it forward.
“We’ve been offered lots of help by different community groups and a lot of people so we have to get the foundations right.
“We hope to have it as a social enterprise project but there’s so many options we have to ensure we choose the right one.”
