Almost 200 local people joined west Suffolk GPs, clinicians and healthcare staff at the recent NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WSCCG) Patient Revolution conference in Bury St Edmunds.

The event was an opportunity to reflect on improvements to west Suffolk healthcare services following patient feedback from last year’s patient conference. It also enabled people to learn about planned changes to the NHS which will result in closer working between health and social care services and increase focus on joined-up services that deliver even better care to patients.

The day’s agenda was set by those attending who were able to input their own ideas, raise concerns about issues that matter to them and talk with local healthcare professionals.

Dr Ed Garratt, chief operating officer for the WSCCG said: “This is our third annual patient revolution conference and I am delighted that, yet again, so many people took the time to attend. This shows just how much passion and interest there is in local healthcare services.

“The CCG commissions most local healthcare services and we couldn’t effectively do this without input from local people who use the services. At the event we discussed the major achievements of the last year, which include the new 24/7 stroke service, improved mental health services and enhanced support for children with asthma and epilepsy.

“This year, we received many great ideas and feedback, highlighting that although we have achieved much over the last year, there is still so much more for us all to do over the next year and beyond.”

Among the key themes raised at the Patient Revolution conference were:

-The need for more joint working and patients being able to access their own information

-The need for community outreach services

-Raising awareness of the support available for people and having a one-stop shop for such information

- Better links to the voluntary sector

- More holistic care, such as referrals onto leisure and exercise activities
