Scooters mark St George's Day in style

THERE was quite a sight in Haverhill on Sunday lunchtime, heading from the Woolpack up Withersfield Road and onto the A1307.

Replacing the queues for the traffic lights at the Tesco was a group of 58 scooters buzzing their way out of the town to join up with scooter enthusiasts in Cambridge for the annual St George's Day ride through the city.

Members of Haverhill Circles Scooter Club met fellow enthusiasts from Sudbury and Coasters Clubs at Haverhill's The Woolpack before heading off to Cambridge, where roads were closed off to allow the riders to travel safely through, watched by many spectators.

Paul Firman, chairman of Haverhill Circles, said: "The sight of them going away was quite fantastic."

More than 300 scooters rode through Cambridge for the event, organised by Cambridge Scooter Club, with around a sixth of that number having travelled from Haverhill.
