National trade tools and hardware supplier Screwfix is to open a store in Haverhill – though it is not revealing where.
The firm, which began as a mail order catalogue in 1979 and now has more than 300 stores across Britain, is advertising for six jobs in Haverhill on its website.
Part time and trade sales service assistants, a customer service supervisor and trade sales version of the role and branch and assistant branch managers are all being sought by the company.
A company statement merely said: “We can confirm that Screwfix is currently looking to open a new store in Haverhill.
“The final timings are still to be confirmed.”
The company has not applied for planning permission for a Haverhill store, and may be moving into the Jubilee Walk premises vacated by Co-Op’s departure.
Haverhill town clerk Will Austin said: “Haverhill Town Council welcomes another prominent retailer to Haverhill and we hope this is part of a trend towards much needed expansion of retail right across the town, both in the town centre and elsewhere.”
The store could be planned for the industrial estate, or could yet to be built on a site such as the former Project Furniture site on Hamlet Green, which failed to materialise after the loss of Wickes, despite being granted planning permission on appeal.
