Siobhan gets all the cast tapping in latest show
A dance teacher is preparing to star in an amateur dramatics musical that she has also choreographed for the third successive year.
Siobhan Whitehead, 37, will play one of Reno’s angels in ‘Anything Goes’, being performed by the Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company next month.
Siobhan, from Barnby Close, Haverhill, has also used her dancing skills to choreograph the show, and is proud to have got the whole cast filled with musical fever – even tap dancing.
“This show is the one I’m most proud of in terms of choreography – there’s a number of reluctant dancers in the cast and the director asked me to get everyone tapping – it’s fun, but it’s not easy,” she said.
“I’ve got the men tapping this year and I’m very proud as there’s a massive tap number and we’ve got all of them dancing for it.”
Siobhan got involved with the amateur thespians 14 years ago as she used to live in Linton, having moved to the area from Scarborough to work as a project manager for Cambridge firm Sanger, and the Saffron Walden group was recommended to her by her then landlord.
After getting involved she became entwined in her own romantic tale, playing Jill while Jason Austin-Guest, 32, played the title role and her love interest in the play ‘Mr Cinders’ three years ago.
A week after the show the two began dating, and they now plan to wed in six weeks.
Jason, a teacher at Wickhambrook Primary School, has also starred in several productions, but does not feature in Anything Goes.
Siobhan also choreographed ‘Mr Cinders’ and ‘Kiss Me Kate’.
She lives with Jason and daughter Tara Whitehead, ten, who has performed herself in Dick Whittington.
Siobhan also teaches at the Lisa Mason School of Dance at the old Parkway Middle School site in Haverhill, teaching ballet, tap, modern and acro dance.

‘Anything Goes’ is set above ocean liner SS American where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeny and Moonface Martin help the former’s pal Billy Crocker in his quest to win the heart of his love Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.
It opens on March 4 at Saffron Walden Town Hall, with showings at 7.45pm each day until March 9, when there will be an additional 2.30pm matinee showing.
