Sir Jim Paice has welcomed the announcement by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander that tolling will not be introduced on the A14.
According to the Highways Agency, the proposed charges would have been between £1 and £1.50 for cars using the 12-mile stretch between Ellington and Swavesey.
The planned £1.5bn upgrade of the A14 will instead be funded through general taxation.
The announcement follows a consultation period during which local residents and businesses were invited to share their views on the scheme.
Sir Jim said: “A number of my constituents and local businesses have raised concerns about the tolling proposal.
“I am glad that the Government has listened to these concerns.
“Funding arrangements for the bypass now need to be finalised to ensure that this important scheme is not delayed.”
The Huntingdon southern bypass should result in a reduction in traffic and accidents on the busy A14, as well as unlocking major developments such as the new town of Northstowe.
