Tim Yeo, the MP for South Suffolk, has been deselected as a candidate for the next election following the results of a ballot.

The 68-year-old conservative requested the ballot of Tory members in South Suffolk after the association’s committee voted not to re-adopt him as a candidate in December.

Ballot papers from the 600 members were counted this afternoon at the Conservative headquarters in London with the outcome being that Mr Yeo will be deselected.

He has been an MP since 1983.

A conservative spokesman said: “The South Suffolk Conservative Association have voted not to re-adopt Tim Yeo MP as their candidate for the next General Election.

“Selection for the South Suffolk constituency will be opened in due course.”
