Spotlight is turned on Suffolk’s hedgerows

A survey to discover as much as possible about Suffolk’s hedgerows has been launched by the county council.

The Suffolk Hedgerows Survey was launched on Thursday, December 13 at the county council’s Ipswich headquarters.

David Barker, chairman of Suffolk’s Creating the Greenest County, along with Guy Ackers, chairman of the Suffolk Hedgerows Survey and winner of the Creating the Greenest County Community Hero award 2010, were at the launch.

Culminating from 12 years hard work and dedication by Guy Ackers, the survey will provide Suffolk with a snap shot in time about the status of over 38,000 of its hedgerows and the species within.

More than 300 parishes have been involved in the project co-ordinating surveys carried out by 2,400 volunteers and resulting in an extremely valuable and detailed analysis of Suffolk hedgerows.
