Stambourne man’s new website is football heaven
Help is now at hand to football lovers looking for some live match action close to home thanks to a new website created by a football fan and professional web designer.
Mike Onslow, who hails from Stambourne but now lives in Portsmouth, recently launched FindAFootballMatch.co.uk with the help of his London-based friend Ben Holland.
The 23-year-old lifelong Chelmford City supporter said: “I used to go and watch a lot of random games and what used to frustrate me was how I could never find a fixture easily.
“The basic aim of the site is to provide football fans and groundhoppers with the ability to find matches local to them, within a certain radius they are willing to travel and on a date to suit them.
“The site makes use of the awesome and flexible Google Maps technology to provide a visually pleasing and easy-to-use interface making the process of finding a match to watch enjoyable and exciting.”
Currently the site includes all clubs from the English Premier League down to the lower tiers of the Southern, Ryman and Northern leagues, plus the top four Scottish divisions.
Mike, a former pupil at Hedingham School and St Margaret’s Primary School in Toppesfield, is now adding all 294 clubs from step five (including Haverhill Rovers) to the site’s database.
So far two non-league clubs, Biggleswade United and Chasetown, have contacted Mike with a view to a two-way promotion of the website, and he hopes more will follow.
The venture is purely a hobby for Mike and Ben, who earn no income from the website as it includes no advertising.
New features that will make the website easier to use are also currently being developed.
