Start date for Steeple Bumpstead flood prevention scheme draws near
The ford in Steeple Bumpstead is one area that will be developed to help against flooding in the future.
A date has been set for the Environment Agency (EA) to start work on its flood alleviation scheme for Steeple Bumpstead.
The village has repeatedly suffered from floods over the years, leaving homes flooded and people homeless.
The EA’s had hoped to start the flood scheme last April but it had to undergo some changes.
The revised plans were approved by Braintree District Council on October 4 and work will start on January 28.
Elizabeth Smith, the EA’s acting project manager for the scheme, said: “We have been working with landowners and others to complete the legal documents required and agree final finishes to property boundaries affected by the scheme.
“I know it has taken along time to reach this point. I would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to people, but would like to reassure you that the flooding experienced in the village is considered very seriously, which is why we have dedicated much time and effort to create the right solution to the problem.”
