An eye-catching new shop with eco-friendly features and a wider range of wares is now open at Sturmer Nurseries.
The shop has solar panels and is designed to allow rain water to be collected and used for watering plants.
Being a purpose built replacement for the nursery’s shop that was formerly situated in the greenhouse, it also has a much larger capacity for stock.
Robert Mason, who owns the nursery with wife Samantha, said: “We have got much more stock.
“Our plants stock is as good and as large as it ever was. It’s just that we have added to the retail side of the shop.
“We’ve got more wild bird care products, greeting cards and gift ware etc.
“We’ve been trading there for 31 years so we felt it was time to have a bit of a change and upgrade our facilities and look forwards to the future so that’s what we have done.”
Due to the original builders engaged for the job going out of business and the recent continuous wet weather it has taken much longer to finish the work than was planned.
But now it is done, Robert said: “It’s quite a big investment but we hope it will bring the customers in.”
Plans are also in place to open a café in the shop, which will also increase the nursery’s staff, which currently stands at five.
