A fostering agency is breaking the business mould by being the first in the industry to be part owned by the carers themselves, using the John Lewis model to create a business inclusive to everyone.

Little Acorns Fostering was officially opened on Saturday by the Haverhill mayor, Councillor Pat Hanlon.

The Ofsted approved agency based in Withersfield road, West Wratting, aims to place children in care into family based foster homes.

It is now ready to recruit foster parents from across East Anglia.

Little Acorns was set up by Cheryl and Mick Jillions.

Cheryl said: ““I’m really excited about this new agency as we try to tackle the shortage of foster homes for vulnerable children in the region.

“Our whole ethos is about supporting and training our carers, ensuring that we are there for them night and day to assist with this sometimes challenging but very rewarding task.

“We are going to redefine the meaning of support, having the knowledge, experience and understanding that fostering is not just between the hours of 9-5.

“There are many children in need of a family. I am encouraging members of the public who have never considered a career in fostering, to contact us.”
