Suffolk Housing Society appoints board members
A finance expert, former solicitor and former local authority officer with a wealth of experience in providing affordable homes have been appointed to the board of Suffolk Housing Society.
Marie McCleary, Wendy Kirk and Ian Tippett have taken up their posts during the past few weeks. All three hope to use the experiences they have built up throughout their working lives to help the society meet future challenges and continue providing good quality homes for families in housing need.
Ms McCleary, who lives in Beyton, joins the society after holding several finance director roles within the NHS.
She said: “I joined the board as I was looking for an opportunity to use the transferable skills I developed during my career in a new area, so that I can continue learning. I’m looking forward to getting to know more about how housing associations work while also focusing on the challenges and opportunities which the future will bring.”
Ms Kirk, from Lackford, is a former solicitor who is currently specialising in housing advice with the Citizens Advice Bureau. She said: “I was looking for a way to make a contribution to the local community and my research showed me that the society did a very worthwhile job providing excellent and affordable housing options, so I decided to put my name forward.
“I look forward to learning more about how the society works and hope to be able to make a useful contribution. I am delighted to be involved with a society that is addressing the lack of affordable housing in the area and have been particularly impressed with the level of service provided to and the level of involvement of the society’s tenants.”
Mr Tippett has spent his career in working for local authority housing departments, including 23 years at Babergh District Council. He is looking forward to helping SHS meet the challenges posed by the current financial climate as well as driving through new housing schemes in rural areas.
“When I retired, I wanted to use the skills I had developed throughout my career to continue to work within the affordable housing field,” said Mr Tippett, who lives in Elmsett. “Joining the board provides a new interest for me and hopefully uses my skills appropriately and for the benefit of Suffolk Housing Society’s tenants.
“My main role before I left Babergh involved bringing forward affordable housing schemes in rural areas, so that is an area I have always held dear to my heart. I will be very much focusing on helping drive forward more schemes during my time with Suffolk Housing.”
Ian Winslet, chief executive of the society, said: “We are delighted to welcome Marie, Wendy and Ian to the board and look forward to working closely with them over the coming years as we steer the society forward.
“They bring with them a wealth of skills and experience which will complement those of our existing board members to help ensure we can continue to offer the best possible service to all of our tenants.”
