ROAD CRASH DRAMA
A family had a narrow escape after a car crashed through their garden wall, sending flying debris through the front window of their home. Fortunately they were all upstairs at the time.
Tracy Hopkins said Withersfield Road in Haverhill had become like a ‘battlefield’ in the past few weeks as a result of so many garden walls being reduced to rubble by vehicles crashing into them.
Mrs Hopkins, her husband Philip, and their two children were not in the living room at the time a car crashed into their property, causing structural damage.
EMPLOYEES REMEMBERED IN WILL
A number of employees of Ronald Vestey, head of the Thurlow estate, were left money by him in his will after his death at the age of 89.
Among the staff to benefit were his housekeeper/secretary, June Tappin, who received £1,000, his former head gamekeeper Derrick Goodwin and his agent Sir John Mowbray, who each got £2,000 and his chauffeur, Jack Marlow, who was given an annuity of £500.
The late head of the Vestey group of companies was worth £6m when he died, and left the majority of his fortune to his family.
