Children and adults alike got together to celebrate the written word when World Book Day took place last week.

Oompa Loompas from Roald Dahl’s tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, were to be found roaming the corridors and classrooms of Wickhambrook Primary School and Place Farm Primary Academy, and probably more besides.

Stepping Stones Under Fives in Haverhill had prizes for the best dressed girl and boy for both morning and afternoon sessions.

Tom Connolly, dressed as Fantastic Mr Fox and Lexie Symonds, as Peppa Pig, won the morning competition and Mia Banerjee, as Little Red Riding Hood, and Colby Pryce, as Ghost Pirate, the afternoon session. All four children won

a book.

The Mayor of Haverhill, Cllr Roger Andre and The Mayor and Mayoress of St Edmundsbury Cllr Terry Buckle and Mrs Pam Buckle to visited and helped choose the winners.

Staff at Puddlebrook Day Care in Haverhill also matched the children in going big on the fancy dress theme.
