Thieves hitting cars in Cambs
MOTORISTS are being urged not to leave valuables in their vehicles following several thefts in Cambridgeshire.
Ten vehicles, including six vans, have been broken into or stolen over the past week with thieves targeting sat navs, mobile phones, bags and tools.
Thieves also stole a car and attempted to steal three others over the weekend.
Officers are urging people not to leave valuables in their vehicles.
Detective Inspector Donna Wass said: “Most thieves are opportunist and are less likely to break into a vehicle if no valuables are on show.
“Adding extra security to your vehicle could also deter thieves.”
There are other measures you can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime including:
- Park in a well-lit area
- Remove any valuables if this is not possible, ensure there are hidden from view
- Fit window blanks – which block the view from outside
- Use vehicle storage boxes which bolt to the floor
- Install a vehicle alarm or GPS tracker
Officers will be checking the security of vehicles while out on patrol.
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
