Unexplained death inquiries in Suffolk

Police are continuing with enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding a man’s death in Newmarket.

Police were contacted by four males who went into Newmarket Police Station at around 6.15pm on Thursday 24 January, reporting that they had not seen a friend for four days but they had been out searching for him and found him dead in the wooded area.

He had not previously been reported as missing to police.

The body of a man was found in woods off Bury Road in Newmarket, an area police have now established that he used to often frequent.

Officers immediately attended the location described to them and found the body of a man, possibly in his 30s or 40s.

The area was cordoned off but has since been lifted.

Initial enquiries have established that the man is a foreign national and his next of kin living abroad. Police are in the process of locating his family.

Formal identification has taken place, however details of the man will not be released until his next of kin have been notified.

A standard post mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday 29 January to ascertain the cause of death.

At this stage, as is standard procedure, the death is being treated as unexplained.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Police on 101.
