Valentine’s domestic abuse campaign launched
‘She loves me, she loves me not’ is the question a number of men may be asking themselves this Valentine’s Day.
Around 25 per cent of domestic abuse victims are men, with many suffering in silence.
This week police are launching a Valentine’s campaign to encourage male victims of domestic abuse to come forward.
Detective Inspector Alan Page said: “Throughout the year we run a number of high profile campaigns to target women who are the victims of domestic abuse and it’s important this work continues as they represent around 75 per cent of victims.
“However we believe there are men out there who are not reporting the abuse they suffer and it is those men we are trying to reach out to.
“We have anecdotal evidence that suggests domestic abuse against men is under-reported and we know from feedback we have received that some men do not feel there is enough work done to highlight this issue.
“I would urge anyone who is a victim of abuse not to suffer in silence and take the first steps towards seeking support.
“The force has a Domestic Abuse Investigations and Safeguarding Unit (DAISU) which investigates all domestic abuse crime, meaning victims deal with specially trained officers.”
