Video: Laura aims to have muppet movie success
A puppeteer from Haverhill who made a film for a town hotel is hoping to be pulling The Muppets’s strings in the future.
Laura Bacon, who grew up in the town and attended Samuel Ward Academy, is featuring as an extra in ‘The Muppets...Again!’, due to be released in March 2014, and also did puppeteering for Les Miserables.
Last Saturday (February 23) Laura, who has also spent four summers teaching puppeteering in New York, was at Days Inn Haverhill to shoot an infomercial for the hotel starring her puppets.
She got involved with making the three and a half minute video after the suggestion of the hotel’s guest services manager Simon Bolton.
Linton Village College student Dan Bell, from Haverhill, did the camera work for the film.
“It was a great success and we think it went really well,” said Laura after the shoot.
“Simon saw my showreel and thought it would be good to do something for the hotel featuring my puppets.”

She is now hoping to progress her career after meeting Muppets puppeteers and having puppeteered an elephant in the Frost Fair scene of Les Miserables, which was removed from the final cut.
“It was good to meet the people who have been doing The Muppets since the 1970s – the guy that did Gonzo was really nice.
“I got to do some networking and hope to send some of my puppet stuff to them.”
Laura first made a puppet at sixth form as she did not wish to perform as a gargoyle in the play of a Terry Pratchett novel.
She has subsequently puppeteered for Centre Stage Company productions including Jack and the Beanstalk (as the chicken) in 2002 and Mother Goose (as Patsy) last year.
