A fund raising event aimed at raising money to buy a drone to help stamp out rhino poaching in South Africa has had to be cancelled.
Anna Fairhead, from West Wickham, and husband Edward had travelled to the country for a winter holiday, yet in January this year decided to give their trip a twist and volunteer with some of the gamekeepers at Kruger National Park.
The businesswoman had organised the Newmarket Rhino Mercy Bash, at Thurlow Barns on Friday (September) 6, in an attempt to raise £10,000 that would cover half of the cost of a drone.
However, a lack of ticket sales has led to the cancellation of the event, which boasted raffle prizes and auction lots including holidays in Gleneagles and Gstaad, tickets to see Arsenal, a day’s work in your garden by Johnny Winter, a day’s golf at Haverhill Golf Club and a day for two at the new Bedford Lodge Spa.
“It’s such a shame after so much work, and of course means no money has been raised,” said Anna.
