Make a heart at Haverhill library

A series of fun and engaging events for all the family are taking place across Suffolk this Saturday (9 February) to celebrate National Libraries Day.

Suffolk Libraries are now run by the Suffolk Library IPS which is an independent and charitable body set up to manage the service.

Shona Bendix, chair of Suffolk Libraries IPS, said: “It’s great to see so many events taking place round the county to mark National Libraries Day as it shows that the library service is thriving and how the community is supporting their libraries. I hope people will take the chance to go along with their families and see what’s happening.

“Library services have been in the news this week as the Government has published its response to the report by the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee on the future of library services and the Society of Chief Librarians has published its vision for the future of public libraries. Suffolk’s Library Service is unique in that no library buildings have closed and opening times have stayed the same. Although it’s a challenging time for many public services, National Libraries Day is a great way of showcasing what our local libraries have to offer.”

National Libraries Day is part of a week of celebrations in schools, colleges, universities, the workplace and public libraries across the UK. There is more information about the day at .

All the events taking place across Suffolk on Saturday are free and anyone is welcome to go along. People can check out the location and opening times of their local library and other regular events and activities which take place at
