Sixth formers from three Suffolk academies will soon be battling it out in a competition to prove who has the superior mental and physical agility.

Students from Samuel Ward Academy, Haverhill, Thomas Gainsborough School, Great Cornard, and Newmarket Academy will compete in the second Wardale Williams Sixth Form Trust Challenge on July 8.

The event, held at the Thomas Gainsborough School and the students will be competing in five different activities; The University Challenge, public speaking, engineering, creative and physical.

Kenny Alexander, director of sixth form at Thomas Gainsborough School, said: “ The competition is aimed at helping our students to develop their personal skills and give them an experience of dealing with a pressure situation, which we hope will benefit them in their future lives and careers.”

The event is sponsored by opticians Wardale Williams, which has practices in Sudbury and Haverhill.
