HAVERHILL Rovers manager Peter Betts is targetting ten wins from his side's last 23 matches to keep them in the Ridgeons League Premier Division.
That would take Rovers to 40 points, a tally that would have been enough to keep them up in each of the last five seasons and should be enough this season with three clubs currently projected to get lower than that mark.

Rovers, who begin that 23
-match run-in at Tiptree United on Saturday, are eight points adrift of safety heading into that match but the gap was of no concern to Betts.

"We've set a target and as long as we reach that target I believe we will stay up," he said. "Thirty-eight points went down last year and the points situation is lower this season than this stage last season.

"Nine or ten wins from our last 23 games will be enough to stay up.

"It's not a guaranteed win but we have Wivenhoe Town to play twice and they're really struggling."

Betts should have a near-enough full squad to choose from when his side travel to Tiptree United on Saturday, with new signings Louis Harper, James Walker, Dan Marshall, Kesley Dedman and Luke Hughes in with a shout of being involved while Tom Shearer and Richard Heller are back from university and available for selection.

Jim Hollingsworth and Ed Campbell are also available after short absences, with the injured Marc Abbott the only remaining player on the sidelines.

With Campbell fit, Betts must make the decision to return to the club's number one or keep faith with Liam Cutts, who has performed well while standing in for the injured shot stopper.

"I'm a believer that if you've got your shirt, it's down to you to keep it," said Betts. "Liam hasn't done much wrong but Ed Campbell is still our number one and I'll have to make a hard decision.

"I'd rather have that than an easy decision."

Rovers home match with Needham Market was postponed on Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch and it's been rearranged for Tuesday, February 3.
