THE man who led Haverhill Rovers Reserves to a unique treble last season is flying to America today to help his new side pit their wits against the likes of David Beckham's LA Galaxy.
Peter Betts will be coaching New York Red Bulls youth team for the next five months and will also sit in with the first team as they prepare for their matches in Major League Soccer, USA’s version of the Premier League.
Bulls boast players such as ex-Manchester City midfielder Claudio Reyna and former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel in their ranks.
Betts said: “I wasn’t expecting to get the position. I just applied on the off-chance.
“I’m looking forward to a new challenge and hopefully I can pick up some new coaching tips to pass on to the lads in Haverhill.”
Betts was asked to go earlier this year but with his Rovers Reserve side chasing a quadruple of trophies – they ended up with a treble – he asked if he could delay his appointment for a few months.
New York Red Bulls agreed and Betts is due to fly out today, before he returns to Rovers in December to help them in their quest to stay in the Ridgeons League Premier Division.
