Haverhill Rovers manager Peter Betts said he was 'delighted' after his side moved up to twelfth with a win over fourth-placed Stanway Rovers at Hamlet Croft on Saturday.
"For us to beat a fourth placed side that have only lost four games all season was fantastic," he said.
"We thought it would be a bonus to get one point so to get three was even better.
"I think the game suited us as we set up in the right way an
d had lots of offensive players playing and that was the right decision.
"I told the lads that this was an opportunity to bounce back after the CRC game (Haverhill lost 5-0) and that if they didn't play well there were others in the squad waiting for an opportunity but none of them let me down really.
"It's even better to get three points against such a top side and it makes up for some of the early silly defeats and in this games even all the subs made an impact."
Haverhill won thanks to a 2-0 half time lead, though the visitors squandered numerous chances to build on their promotion challenge as they hit the post and missed from point blank as they played some good possession football around the Haverhill area with no clinical finishing to complement it.
"I do think we deserved the victory overall though they certainly picked their game up in the second half.
"I was furious about one chance late on as their goalkeeper clearly handled it about 20 yards away from their area but somehow the officials missed it.
"We're happy with teams playing in front of us as we're certainly a force at home and make it difficult for any team to score.
"They had a couple of good chances but so did we and I think it's swings and roundabouts really as we've not had the luck in a lot of games but you make your own luck."
Haverhill next play at Kirkley and Pakefield today.
