HAVERHILL Golf Club's Curry Cup team flew out of the traps on Saturday morning in the first of the year's league games which was at home to Gosfield.
All six pairs won in the morning foursomes element but post lunch had to buckle down as the pendulum swung in favour of the visitors in the 12 singles games.
Honours were even amongst the lower category players and there was only a point advantag
e gained by the home club's 10-18 handicappers which at the end of the day gave Haverhill a 12½-5½ points victory.
One possible name to look for in the future amongst the home squad is that of 13-year-old Fraser Curl who was making his debut in a senior team.
Despite coming to grief in the singles he and partner Ted Fairhead had a resounding foursomes win of 5&4 over D Argent and T Plumb.

The men's Mail on Sunday Classic team finally went out in the fourth round of the competition away to Saffron Walden where the result was 4-1 but there were smiles on two members faces during the week.
Both Sarah Field and Mike Barnham recorded aces at par three holes, in Sarah's case it was in a ladies competition and Mike's a social round.
Sarah's feat at the 109-yard eight was achieved with a six iron while Mike utilised an eight iron at the 125-yard second hole.
The winners in the mixed team competition, the Peggy McGhee Cup, on Sunday were Gordon and Sheila Price along with Derek Thomas.
The trio accumulated 99 stableford points and were eight ahead of Bob Hammett who partnered Peter and Marion Mercer.
A further two back in third were Theresa Spittle, Graham Ashcroft and Spencer Tatum.
The ladies LGU Medal results were as follows: SILVER DIVISION: D Walker 75; L Bugg 78; S Carr 79.
BRONZE DIVISION: J Condon 71; M Kendall, S Price 80.
