DIVISION ONE
SAWSTON took a massive step towards winning the Adams Harrison Midweek League Division One title with a crushing victory at Horseheath, while closest challengers Haverhill stumbled at home to struggling Babraham.
The Cambridgeshire
villagers thrashed Horseheath by ten wickets while Dan Poole’s 39 wasn’t enough as Haverhill’s 134-8 came up well short of the 190-run target Babraham had set them to win.
Bottom side Abington were just two balls away from winning for the first time this season but Colville’s Harry Randall helped his side home by seven wickets from the second-last ball of the day.
Bruce Wagstaff had earlier smashed 55 in Abington’s 137-5.
Great Yeldham scored 188-4 but still lost with two-and-a-half overs to spare at Long Melford in their Division Two game.
Lee Phillips (89no), R Gardner (44) and M Hoadley (30) all scored well for Yeldham but Melford smashed the Essex-side’s bowling attack all over the part, winning by seven wickets.
W Mallett and S Fowl (both 4-17) bowled extremely well as Ashdon skittled Helions Bumpstead for 61 to win by 82 runs with J Millership (57) and M Furze (40) impressing for Ashdon with the bat.
Mill Green lost to Brockley in the same division.
Both Hundon sides continued to occupy the top two spots in Division 3A, even after Hundon II beat Hundon I in their very local derby this week.
F Armid hit 48 and was well backed up by M Jolland (39) as Hundon II beat Hundon I (T Beaumont 25, A Anderson 3-47) by 67 runs.
Both sides also gained wins against other teams.
Hundon II won by six wickets at Wratting Lions, despite Lions’ Russell Davis hitting 53no, while Hundon I beat Highpoint by 52 runs with K Davis (73), N Poole (66no) and E Pickerin (3-16) on form.
C Phllips (89no), L Kingston (36) and L Clayden (28) scored well for Highpoint.
Castle Manor kept up their 100 per cent record by winning for the fifth time this season, defeating Babraham II by 60 runs.
Liam Savage hit 52 and Dan Webb took 4-17 for Manor, who are well clear of second-placed Abington II after the Cambridgeshire villagers suffered a seven-wicket loss to Weston Colville II.
Greg Wagstaff hit 51 for Abington but Chris Glover’s 63no helped Colville home with nearly five overs to spare.
