MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES LEAGUE DIVISION NINE
Felixstowe III lost to Haverhill II by seven wickets

HAVERHILL II were on their travels again this week with a trip to Coronation Park to play Felixstowe III.

With showers forecast and the pitch itself difficult to assess, skipper Poole won the
toss and asked the home side to bat.

It soon became apparent that the right decision had been made.

With the surface having a very uneven bounce coupled with the ball swinging in the breezy conditions, batting was very difficult.

All the Haverhill bowlers kept a very disciplined line and length and wickets fell at regular intervals which saw Felixstowe bowled out in 30 overs for just 44.

Wicket-takers were Nurul Hoque (11-6-13-2), Dan Webb (7-2-11-3), Paul Turner (4-1-6-4) and young Joey Kettle took the final scalp.

Rus Davis again bowled with good pace but without any luck at all.

With a small total to chase, the Haverhill batsmen were watchful at first but with the unpredictability of the pitch an aggressive approach was needed.

Although three wickets were lost in the pursuit of the target, Haverhill got home in just 11 overs. Main contributors were Phil Jones (22) and Luke Youngs (13no).

Skipper Julian Poole said: “When you are playing the bottom side and are expected to win it would be the norm if you win the toss to bat first and get runs on the board.

“But the real winner today was the pitch as it made a good game of cricket almost impossible. However, another full haul of points puts us in good mood for this Saturday’s important home match against Kesgrave, who are just below us in the table.”
