HAVERHILL cricket captain Rob Sullivan expects a few sparks to fly when his side travel to rivals Kelvedon & Feering on Saturday.
Both sides were promoted from Division Three last year but some quarters of the Kelvedon side were upset after being denied the chance to go for the title when the last-day decider between the pair was cancelled because of an unfit pitch at Haverhill.

A Kelvedon win would have meant a league title victory for them instead of Haverhill but Sullivan insists his side won't get involved in any possible shenanigans.

He said: "There could be a few sparks flying but we are not going to lower ourselves to that.

"We've got a game to win and we are just going to go over there with the same attitude that we had this week.

"It is still a learning experience for us in this league but we know we have the talent in the side and we know we will be competitive."

Saturday's win over Witham could point towards a third consecutive promotion challenge from Haverhill, with Witham expected to be one of the stronger sides in the division after missing out on a promotion of their own by 0.6 average points last summer.

But Sullivan was keen to play down the Manor Road-based side's chances this year.

"I wouldn't say I'm optimistic. I'm reasonably confident that we will have a good year," he said. "The opposition did say they were down a couple of players but you don't know how much to read into that.

"The win has calmed a few nerves at the club though, which is good."

Youngster Adam Dellar was the Haverhill hero, smashing an incredible 137 not out, after Haverhill had been left struggling at 6-2 and 52-3.

But Sullivan believes this proves his side has one of the best batting line-ups in the league.

"We still had four or five good batsmen to go," he said. "Simon Youngs was padded up and he's been one of the best batsmen at the club for years and he was batting at six.

"Adam's probably one of about seven batsmen who can hit a big score. This week it was Adam's turn. Next week it could be Scott Webb, Bill Moran, Sam Powell, Simon Youngs or someone else."

The only change in the Haverhill side for the match at Kelvedon and Feering should is likely to be Greg Street in for Dave Godwin (unavailable).
