FIFTEEN brave souls left the first tee at Haverhill's Coupals Road golf course on Wednesday, competing in the Mid-Week Medal.
There was a danger at one stage that the inclement weather would force abandonment of play but as the rain eased late in the day all the greens remained in play.

Dave Whiting took the low section with Stuart King and improving junior Harvey Bavest
er winning the mid and high divisions respectively.

Besides their normal Monday morning series of matches the seniors had a busy week with the men taking on the ladies a day later in their annual Alfa Romeo Shield challenge match.

Gallantry certainly was not on the men’s agenda this time round as they romped home, recording a 15-3 result in a series of singles games.

Friday saw a visit from Girton seniors who were entertained to a 4BBB match. Haverhill were not quite as clinical as they had been with the ladies but won by a 4½-3½ margin.

The main event on the seniors’ agenda was the quarter-final match against St Clements in the Park’s Trophy, which is a county inter-club competition. Lead pair Malcolm Klingle and Gordon Price set the ball in motion with their one-up win over J Fuller and B Sutton as Haverhill eased home to a 12-hole victory.
