THE return of the Haverhill Show five-a-side tournament saw 14 teams from the Sudbury Sunday League do battle in their attempts to be crowned Haverhill five-a-side kings, as well as raise money for the charity LampH.
Grampian B were victors, defeating Arrendene 3-1 in the final despite both sides only finishing runners-up in their groups earlier in the day.

Grampian’s A team won group A comfortably, and it was left to Herbert Lions A, Arrendene and Delaware Fe
ather Angels A to battle it out for second place.

Arrendene defeated Delaware to progress to the semi-finals and face the winners of group B.

That was Haverhill Snooker and Bowl, who dominated most of their games with some attractive football.

After Grampian B snatched second place they went through to take on Grampian A in the semi-finals.

The two sides were level at the end of the match and again at the end of penalty kicks so a sudden death shoot-out went on and on until Grampian B emerged victorious.

Arrendene shocked Snooker and Bowl in the other semi with a 1-0 win.

They couldn’t conjure up another shock though and were beaten by Grampian B.

Organiser Liam Plumridge said: “Many thanks to Mick Driver of the Haverhill Show for allowing me to organise the tournament and it is confirmed that it will be an annual event.

“It was a fantastic day and a great way to raise money for charity.

“Being only recently back from a kidney op, I relied on the help of referees Brad Rice, Sean Page, Dudley Haylock and Chris Titterington and some great organisational help from Dennis Hutchins and Bill Craig.”
