THIS time next week Hundon could be Kershaw Premier League champions, facing a final day title- decider or be waking up with a serious hangover after crashing and burning in the fight for the league.
That is how important this penultimate week of Cambridgeshire league football is to the Suffolk side attempting to be the first team from outside Cambridgeshire to win the county's top league.
Hundon have been boosted by the return to fitness of 28-goal striker Craig Cutts, who will return to the starting line-up when third-placed Great Shelford play hosts to the league leaders on Saturday.
"Craig is just a goalscorer. He scores goals from nothing and is the best striker in this league," said Hundon manager Brian Pilgrim.
"How fit he is, I don't know, but he is a threat so hopefully on the day he will be fully fit because I have to start him as he is a huge threat no matter how fit he is."
A win for Hundon would near- enough eliminate Shelford, the reigning Kershaw Premier League champions, from the title race but defeat could do the same to Hundon should Waterbeach gain an expected home win over Cottenham United.
Then, on Tuesday April 29 (kick-off 6.15pm), Hundon play their last home match of the season, against Ely City Reserves hoping to stay ahead going into the final weekend.
"I rate our chances for the game highly," added Pilgrim. "It depends what side turns up.
"We are confident we can beat them because we have beaten them this season.
"We are up for a fight and ready for it.
"It just depends who turns up on the day, you never known what to expect from us."
That Jekyll and Hyde mood swing was in evidence as Hundon beat second-bottom Great Paxton on Saturday.
For 43 minutes the home side were in total control and looked likely to record a massive win, but a couple of lapses in concentration allowed their opponents back into the game and Hundon had to hold on to a 3-2 win.
